Five goal second quarter lifts Owen J. Roberts past Pope John Paul II; Academy of New Church downs Perk Valley

A five-goal second quarter was key to the Owen J. Roberts boys lacrosse team overtaking Pope John Paul II Tuesday and scoring an 11-7 Pioneer Athletic Conference triumph.

Logan Clefisch gave Owen J. a game-high six goals, with Noah Calle adding another pair while making one assist. Ryan Kormos had four goals to lead PJP.

Ac. of New Church 5, Perkiomen Valley 4 >> The Vikings were edged by ANC in their non-league pairing on the strength of a goal with 34 seconds left to play.

Down two men in the last three minutes of play, the PV defense held strong until its hosts found a man cutting back side to finish for the game-winning tally. PV had an opportunity to even the score after winning the faceoff, but Mario Scotese’s shot from inside was saved by the ANC goalie to kill the clock.

Matt Dudley and Shawn Coulter (one assist) each scored twice to account for PV’s offense.
