Daniel Boone girls lacrosse secures program’s first Berks Conference win

It’s been a long time coming for Daniel Boone girls lacrosse team.

Since the start of the Blazer program three seasons ago, the team hadn’t been able to find a Berks Conference win.

That all changed Thursday night as Daniel Boone ousted Conrad Weiser 7-6 to secure the program’s first-ever league win.

“This is only our third PIAA season and the girls, especially our five seniors, have worked hard for this victory,” Daniel Boone head coach Jen Armstrong said.

Makenzie Witzel finished with four goals and three assists with Ashley Bonetz adding a pair of goals and an assist in the victory, which effectively snapped a 25-game conference losing streak for Boone. Cameron Nicoline provided nine saves in net with two interceptions and Ali Williams scored once.

Conrad Weiser was led by Madison Youst’s four goals.

Methacton 15, Upper Perkiomen 13 >> With four players getting three or more goals apiece, the Warriors held off the Indians in their Pioneer Athletic Conference matchup.

Julie Byrne netted four goals to lead Methacton, which benefited from hat tricks by Jackie Cerchio, Alana Cardaci and Sydney Tornetta. Mackenzie Gebhardt had a game-high five goals for UP, with Hope Flack and Liz Fox adding two tallies each.

Perkiomen School 20, Collegium Charter 12 >> Mikayla Matthews and Hannah Chiesa combined for a whopping 15 goals in leading the Panthers’ Tri-County League win over Collegium.

Matthews edged Chiesa out for game scoring honors, 8-7. Emalee Walsh had another pair of tallies to go along with her four assists.
