Cole P. Chesnet’s two-out, RBI-single in the sixth inning broke up a pitchers’ duel and lifted Archbishop Carroll to a 1-0 triumph over the Haverford School in nonleague action.
It was the third straight win for the Patriots (3-1), all by one run.
The Patriots got four strong innings out of freshman starting pitcher Kamal Gray, who struck out six, and three solid frames from winner Ian Myers. The duo stranded 12 runners on the day.
Tyler Kehoe (2-for-3) led off the pivotal inning with a single and stole second to set up Chesnet, the catcher.
Tommy Toal joined the 100-hit club with a single early in the game for the Fords. Logan Keller (double), Bryan Holland and Dave Hogarth smacked two hits apiece in support of starting pitcher Calvin Costner, who hurled four shutout innings.
Episcopal Academy 13, Saint Joseph’s Prep 8 >> Adam Robinson and Kyle Virbitsky sparked a late rally enabling the Churchmen to erase a 6-0 deficit entering the bottom of the fifth inning.
Robinson went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, Viritsky 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three ribbies.
Haverford High 4, Ocean City 2 >> Ben Savitz threw 4 2-3 scoreless innings of relief to lead the Fords (3-3) to their third straight victory.
Finian O’Brien and Connor Brown stroked two hits apiece for the visiting Fords, who jumped out to a 3-0 lead but surrendered two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
