Council Rock North catcher Taylor Amazeen headed to Boston University Softball

NEWTOWN – While Council Rock North catcher Taylor Amazeen had interest from a group of schools in the Northeastern United States, she decided over a year ago she wanted to be a Terrier.

After considering, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Duke and Delaware, Amazeen is headed to Boston University.

“The minute I stepped foot on the campus, it felt like home,” said Amazeen. “It’s a city school but the campus is so isolated, it’s like you’re not even in the city. It’s kind of tucked back in the corner and so beautiful.

“The coaches are really great. They’re great about keeping you in touch and welcoming you into the program.

“The team seems so nice. I haven’t met all of them but the ones I have met are amazing. They’re so friendly.

“The school is just a great school and I’m really looking forward to it.”

While Amazeen plays summer ball for Rock Gold Waye 18U, the six-foot catcher with the big bat says she has grown as a player at North, starting behind the plate since freshman year.

“I’ve learned so much from the older kids here,” she said. “Coming into high school, I was this young freshman and all these seniors were going to all these great schools.

“They were so talented and I learned so much from them – how to be a better person, a better teammate, how to help the other players out.”

Last season, Amazeen earned Second Team All-SOL National Conference accolades after batting .317 with six doubles. Her team, the Lady Indians, finished 10-2 in their division, one game behind league champ Neshaminy then posted a 2-0 District 1-4A playoff win over Methacton.

For Amazeen, this season is not about wins and losses.

“We just want to make a difference – leave our mark,” she said. “If we can figure out a way to have a great season, it won’t matter about the wins as much from my experience.

“The young kids are the future of the program so it’s important that they get some experience – get to know us and learn from us.”

“This season is more about the younger kids – helping them get ready to be the captains and be the future of the program.”

Amazeen is one of this season’s co-captains along with centerfielder Sabrina Crane, who is going to Bryant. On March 3 on the Lady Indians’ home turf, Amazeen hit 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the Rock’s 4-3 triumph over Harry S Truman. The win pushed CR North to 2-1, overall, 1-0 in the SOL National Conference.
