Ryan Shields got off to a strong start to the No. 2 singles match between Cardinal O’Hara and Upper Darby. Zoe Lor had an even better finish.
Shields won the opening set, but Lor roared back and claimed the second set and super tiebreaker for an impressive win that highlighted the Royals’ 7-0 whitewashing. Lor claimed the match 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
In other nonleague action:
Radnor 5, Abington 2 >> Max Safanov won in straight sets at No. 1 singles to set the tone for the Raiders’ triumph, while the tandem of George Hu and Chris Rinehart overcame an early deficit for a three-set win.
In the Del Val League:
Penn Wood 5, Chester 0 >> Victor Alao, John Kpanka and Christopher Jones all won in straight sets in their singles matches to fuel the Patriots’ shutout of the Clippers.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Avon Grove 7, Sun Valley 0 >> Keith Crego and Brian Stekowicz put up a fight at No. 3 doubles, falling 6-3, 6-1, but the Vanguards couldn’t break through against the Red Devils.
