A pitcher’s duel nearly went down to the wire, but it was a pair of Radnor rookies that helped make the difference.
Emily Madden singled in her first varsity at-bat, fellow rookie Sophia Royle pinch-ran for her and came home on a Cate Remphrey double as the Raiders edged Springfield, 1-0, in a Central League game.
Brooke Nickander was stellar for Radnor (2-0, 2-0), hurling a complete-game two-hitter. Sydney Aljian posted a 2-for-3 day.
Garnet Valley 11, Ridley 7 >> Lindsey Hunt’s grand slam highlighted a six-run sixth inning that gave the Jaguars the lead for good. Garnet Valley (2-1, 2-1) also got extra-base hits from Diane Torregrossa and Audrey Shenk to cement its second consecutive win.
Haverford 9, Conestoga 0 >> Lindsay Moran had a perfect day at the dish, going 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored to pave the way for the Fords’ rout
Haverford (2-0, 2-0) also got a double and an RBI from Madison Lane.
Penncrest 10, Strath Haven 0 >> Maya Hartman fanned nine batters, Julia Eckels scored three times and Olivia Rigby crossed the plate twice as the Lions (3-0, 2-0) roared past their rivals.
Brooke Bender doubled for the Panthers.
Marple Newtown 12, Harriton 2 >> Nicole Atkins went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Michelle Tannehill roped a two-run single as the Tigers mauled the Rams. Jenna Cooper was a perfect 2-for-2 for Marple Newtown, which earned its first win.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Sun Valley 15, Downingtown East 9 >> The Vanguards broke out the big sticks for 16 hits, including a three-run home run from Madison Koons that highlighted a six-run second inning. MacKenzie Lewis jumpstarted the Vanguards (2-2, 2-2) offense with a 4-for-5, four-run day, while Maddie Gutowiecz was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs, two runs scored and the pitching win.
Bridget Thomas capped it off with a 3-for-4, three-RBI, two-run effort.
In the Catholic League:
Cardinal O’Hara 12, Bishop McDevitt 0 >> Annemarie Banes had a pair of doubles, while Jena Smith struck out eight in five innings of one-hit ball as the Lions pasted the Lancers.
In the Bicentennial League:
Delco Christian 21, Lower Moreland 11 >> The offensive fireworks started early with the Knights (2-0, 1-0) scoring 12 times in the first two innings on the way to a blowout win. Ronnie Falasco doubled twice and tripled once as part of a four-RBI day and Dani Strafford was 3-for-5 with two RBIs while picking up the win in the circle.
Faith Christian 11, The Christian Academy 5 >> Carly Ryle supplied most of the offense for the Crusaders (2-2, 2-2) with a 3-for-3, three-RBI day, but Faith Christian pulled away for the win.
In a nonleague affair:
Notre Dame 19, Academy Park 0 >> Sophia Marlino cranked out a grand slam and Anita Bilotta also went yard as the Irish jumped out to a big early lead and never looked back.
Samantha McGarvey had a huge game out of the 9-hole for Notre Dame, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
