Conestoga crew club has strong showing at 3rd Manny Flick

Another weekend of unsettled weather resulted in the cancellation of the boys and girls Novice and Freshman races during the 3rd Manny Flick on the Schuylkill River, but that did not stop the Conestoga Crew Club from a successful outing.

With the boys racing in the morning and girls later in the afternoon, the first race of the day was the boys’ JV double.  Stroke Warren Zhao and bow Amir Zisling finished a close second place behind Ridgewood.

The boys’ JV quad, led by Brenton Molsbergen, Cole Fogarty, Michael Medica and bow Evan Cain powered down the 1,500-meter course and finished six seconds ahead of Ridgewood Crew in first place.

In the first flight of the boy’s lightweight double, Liam Bobber and Frank Wang finished in second place behind Malvern Prep.

In the boy’s lightweight quad, Kale Wiley, Leo Draper, Sam Nalbone and Drew Tada finished in first place, 10 seconds ahead of Germantown Friends for the second week in a row.

The two Conestoga boys’ varsity boats completed the morning races with strong finishes.

The double, with stroke Matt Balch and bow Conner Sullivan, were 3.79 seconds behind Malvern Prep in second place.  The boys’ quad, Shane Connell, Zach Simpson, Max Amsterdam and Griffin Hamilton had a solid showing in their five-boat flight.

The afternoon kicked-off with the girls’ JV quad.  Abigail Lewis, Blair Kennedy, Elena Lindquist and Katherine Stanton, finished in first place, 2.34 seconds ahead of Agnes Irwin.

The girls’ lightweight double, stroke Natalia Bertolotti and bow Anna Green, finished in second behind the Baldwin School.

The two girls’ varsity boats finished in first place.  Holly Culbert and Leah Burgess, finished eight seconds ahead of Strath Haven.  Victoria Budike, Laura Alcorn, Kate Hudson and Kate Concannon, finished in first ahead of Episcopal Academy.  Both boats remain undefeated this season.

The Conestoga Women’s Sculling Team leads the 2017 PSRA Points Trophies with 140 points for the Kate Godwin Trophy.  The Men’s Sculling Team is currently in third place out of 32 teams with 136 points for the Horvat Series Trophy.
