Koons’ first hit goes long way for Sun Valley

That’s one way to collect your first varsity hit, Madison Koons.

Koons blasted a one-out pinch-hit home run — her first varsity hit — in the seventh inning to give Sun Valley an 8-7 win over Great Valley in a Ches-Mont League softball game Wednesday.

Sun Valley (1-2 Ches-Mont) trailed, 7-5, heading into the seventh, but Carli Williams tied the game with a two-run single.

In the Central League:

Penncrest 3, Marple Newtown 2 >> Victoria Reed was the hero for the Lions as her two-out line drive brought in Julia Eckels for the game-winning run.

The Tigers were up, 2-1, in the bottom of the seventh, but Kailey Martin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to set up Reed’s hit. Brianna Clark tripled for Marple Newtown.

Springfield 3, Strath Haven 1 >> Victoria Ciasullo knocked in a pair of runs with a seventh-inning single and Lauren Quinn added an insurance RBI single as the Cougars (1-0, 1-0) roared back to edge the Panthers.

Maggie Fleming brought in Haven’s lone run.

Garnet Valley 9, Conestoga 4 >> Jaguars freshman Kelly McLaughlin bashed her first career home run with a three-run, first-inning shot, and Olivia DiCampli slugged a round-tripper in her first varsity game as part of a 3-for-3 day as Garnet Valley (1-1, 1-1) rolled.

Hope DiMario posted a 2-for-4 day, including a double.

Ridley 11, Lower Merion 1 >> Leighann Jenkins and Ashley Shanks both mashed home runs and Gabrielle DiNardo laced a triple and drove in three runs as Ridley cruised.

In the Del Val:

Chichester 10, Penn Wood 0 >> Haley Larrabee and Rose Rybak made sure Penn Wood never had a chance to mount a comeback.

Chichester’s duo combined for a five-inning no-hitter, each striking out four batters, and Rhianna Snyder’s two-run first-inning single was all the offense the Eagles needed.

Chichester (1-1, 1-0 Del Val) also got an RBI double from Maddie Knapp.

In the Bicentennial League:

Bristol 13, Christian Academy 1 >> Grace Gormley and Grace Heron both doubled for the Crusaders (1-1).
