Perkiomen School no-hits Abington Friends in season opener

The Panthers opened up their spring 2017 campaign with a 12-0 non-conference no-hitter against Abington Friends on Thursday afternoon.

Josh Cruz earned the win on the mound, striking out eight in three innings of work to go along with a triple and three runs scored while batting out of the lead-off spot. Nick Guadarrama hit 2-for-4 with a run scored while Nathaniel Urbia (two hits), Zach Smith, Sam Glavin (two RBI) and Marc Molnar each hit a double. Jeremy Amaro finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Perk did most of its trouble late with a 2-0 lead, scoring four runs in the fifth, two more in the sixth, then adding four more in the seventh. Guaddarama and David Smith pitched the final four frames where they combined for seven strikeouts.

Will Steinberg took the loss for Abington Friends, allowing two runs on four hits in three innings. He struck out three.
