Delayed opener worth wait for Upper Darby

Last week’s snow cost forced the Upper Darby boys tennis team to postpone three matches and pushed its season opener back a week.
It was worth the wait.
The Royals swept the doubles to open the season with a 5-2 nonleague victory over Archbishop Carroll Monday.
Ani Tupia and Hazma Azam did not lose a game at third doubles for the Royals. William Scott and Zach Thornton and Steve Lan and Ricky Tiang also won in straight sets at first and second doubles, respectively, while Ethan Pugh and Brian Hua needed three sets to win at fourth doubles.
Jimmy Buste and Matt Mycok won at second and third singles, respectively, for Archbishop Carroll.
In the Del Val League:
Academy Park 4, Glen Mills 1 >> Kevin Tran did not drop a game at first singles and Phi Tang did the same at third singles to pace the Knights in their season opener. Abdoulai Gassoma was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at second singles for AP.
Trevon Williams and Jermaine Beverly had the only win for Glen Mills with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at second doubles.
