States-bound Garnet Valley, Radnor fall in District 1 playbacks

Fourth-seeded Garnet Valley made things interesting in the fourth quarter of its District 1 Class 6A seventh-place contest against No. 11 Council Rock North.

The Jaguars went on a big run to erase a 14-point, second-half deficit and tie the game. C.R. North answered by scoring 11 of the next 13 points en route to a 53-46 victory.

With the loss, Garnet Valley (22-5) takes eighth place in the District 1 tournament. The Jags will enter the PIAA Class 6A tournament next week riding a three-game losing streak.

Junior guard Nicole Barnes posted nine points and five steals for the Jags. Emily McAteer led all GV players with 18 points, and Brianne Borcky added six points and nine rebounds.

In the Class 5A fifth-place game:

Henderson 56, Radnor 44 >> The fourth-seeded Raiders led by nine points in the second quarter, but No. 2 Henderson stormed back and dominated the second half, 29-16. Radnor takes fifth place in District 1 and will compete in next week’s state tournament.

Nicole Massimino paced the Raiders with 13 points and six rebounds. Allison Lanzone chipped in with 10 points and four steals, while Ellie Mueller totaled five points and 11 boards.
