Council Rock South, Boyertown head to South East Region tournament

SOUDERTON – After winning their second straight District 1-AAA East championship last Saturday, Council Rock South, along with a slew of tough competitors, moves to the South East Region Tournament today and tomorrow at Souderton.

The Golden Hawks, who have captured the D-1 trophy three of the past four years, could be the odds on favorite to take first place in this weekend’s action, which starts at 5:30 today and goes all day Saturday.

CR South grabbed four title belts at districts including Lower Bucks record holder for wins Zack Trampe at 132 pounds, the Palmer twins – Cary (138) and Riley (145) and Big Joe Doyle at 220.

Doyle, Trampe and Riley Palmer captured regional championships last year and Cary grabbed a fourth-place medal.

South is sending 11 grapplers to the tournament while sister school CR North has seven taking the mat this weekend including D-1 champs Luke Lucerne (106) and Shane Thompson (113).

While Boyertown won the regional tournament last year, the Hawks toppled the Bears in District 1-AAA Duals so it will be interesting to see how the wrestlers pan out individually.

All of the District 1-AAA East champions, pictured above, head to the South East Region Tournament today and tomorrow at Souderton High School.
