Swimming: Villa Maria Academy completes undefeated regular season

Malvern – The Villa Maria Academy swim team finished off another undefeated regular season (9-0) with a 130 – 55 win against Mount St. Josephs Feb. 4.

Villa started the meet off quickly taking first and second in the 200 medley relay in time of 1:52.93 and 1:54.50. Sophomore Alexa Turco captured the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:01.23, and then Katelyn Chick won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:17.25 with Taylor Draganosky of MSJ taking second in 2:18.40 and Hope Reynolds taking third in 2:19.14. Villa took 1-2-3 in the 50 freestyle with senior Olivia Giampietro winning in a time of 25.29 followed by Maura McManus (25.37) and Nina Smith (25.53).

Starting the second session, Villa continued their standout swims with junior Kaitlyn Agger winning the 100 butterfly in 1:00.33, and the senior Maura McManus and Olivia Giampietro finishing 1-2 the 100 freestyle in 55.29 and 55.69.

Next was the distance event, the 500 freestyle, and sophomore Alexa Turco took first place in a time of 5:22.57. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Villa continued to shine taking first place in 1:43.11.

In the 100 backstroke Villa again completed a 1-2-3 finish, junior Kira Buchler captured first place in 1:01.02, followed by senior Hope Reynolds (1:02.66) and junior Nina Smith (1:03.89). Katelyn Chick took first in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:09.76 and Taylor Draganosky of MSJ took second in 1:10.09.

In the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, Villa’s relay of Caitlin Hamill, Brenna Magness, Hope Reynolds, and Amy McHale swam a fine race to close out the victory. Reynolds swam a strong third leg to give the Villa team the lead and then McHale held off MSJ in the anchor finishing in a time of 3:54.48 just touching out Mount St. Josephs at 3:54.51.
