Garnet Valley hot streak continues by taking down Red Lion

Garnet Valley has been on a roll since losing to Council Rock North in the District 1 quarterfinals. That didn’t stop Tuesday in a 3-0 sweep of District 3 champion Red Lion in the first round of the PIAA Class 4A tournament.

Gabby Davis had 33 assists and four digs, Nicole Loan smashed 11 kills and Lizzie Herestofa led a solid defensive effort with 13 digs and one ace as the Jaguars stunned the District 3 champion Lions, 25-21, 25-19, 25-14.

“We’re clicking right now,” Garnet Valley coach Mark Clark said. “We’ve gotten progressively better since the loss to CR North. We’re playing together, as one unit, and that’s really been the difference.”

The Jaguars received contributions from everyone. Erin Patterson had nine kills and five digs. Sydney Portale contributed 12 digs, six kills and three aces. Cassidy Gallagher had three kills and three digs. Sekai Kaminski chipped in with four kills and three digs. Amber Goldberg (four digs, one ace), Meagan Scott (four digs, five aces) and Jessie Gourdier (two digs) came up big, too, to send the Jags into the quarterfinals against District 7’s Baldwin, which topped Taylor Allderdice, 3-0.

“We played very solid,” Clark said. “Our defense was solid. We played great defense. Our hitting was solid and our serving was tough. We had everything going tonight.”
