Josh Yurasits headed in a goal off a Noah Saba cross in the 78th minute to break a 1-1 tie as the Lansdale Catholic boys soccer team qualified for the PIAA Tournament with a 2-1 comeback win over visiting New Hope-Solebury in the District 1/12 Class AA regional semifinals Wednesday afternoon.
The Crusaders advance to face Lower Moreland — which defeated Philadelphia Academy Charter 4-0 in the other semi — in the final 3 p.m. Saturday at Council Rock North. Winner faces the District 3 runner-up in the state first round, with the losing side taking on the District 3 champ. Tulpehocken takes on Biglerville for the District 3-AA title Saturday.
New Hope-Solebury opened scoring Wednesday in the second half as Nate Bawduniak’s free kick found the back of the net in the 60th minute.
“That one woke us up,” Lansdale Catholic coach Joe Wilson said. “We weren’t playing very well to that point, but that one got us going.”
The Crusaders pulled level in the 70th minute. Yurasits’ long-distance effort hit the crossbar and Chris Edling converted on the rebound.
“That first goal got us back in the game, and we obviously needed it,” Wilson said. “Yurasits hit a bullet and Edling was there for the rebound.”
After being denied by the woodwork, Yurasits provided LC the game-winning goal minutes before the contest went into overtime.
“The second one was just a great cross from Noah, and a terrific header from Josh, Wilson said.
Jack Kane made six saves for Lansdale Catholic, who earned a PIAA berth for the fourth consecutive season.
