Gwynedd Mercy, New Hope-Solebury advance to District 1/12 A final

The Gwynedd Mercy field hockey team got the best of Dock Mennonite Academy for the second time this postseason as the Monarchs scored twice in the second half to beat the Pioneers 3-1 in the District 1/12 Class A regional semifinals Wednesday.

Bridget Beck’s goal broke a 1-1 tie in the second half for the Monarchs — who beat Dock 4-1 in the District 1 semifinals last Wednesday — while Hailey Durkin’s strike made it a two-score game.

Gwynedd Mercy faces New Hope-Solebury in the regional final 3 p.m. Friday at Plymouth Whitemarsh. GMA beat the Lions for the District 1 title 3-0 last Friday.

Dock visits Lansdale Catholic 3 p.m. Friday in the District 1/12 third place game. Winner earns the regional’s last state berth.

Jess Schmidt scored on a penalty stroke to give Dock (18-3) a 1-0 lead in the first half but Alden Boccella’s tally sent the team into halftime even at one.

New Hope-Solebury 7, Lansdale Catholic 0 >> Sarah Wilson had two goals and three assists and New Hope-Solebury locked up its first state playoff berth since 1998 via a 7-0 win over host Lansdale Catholic in District 1/District 12 Class A field hockey action.

Wilson had two goals and two assists in the first half as the Lions opened a 5-0 lead by halftime, then coasted to the easy victory.

New Hope was awarded 22 penalty corners to the Lansdale Catholic’s one and outshot the Crusaders, 16-1.

New Hope will now face District One champion Gwynedd Mercy in the regional championship game on Friday at Plymouth Whitemarsh, while Lansdale Catholic host Christopher Dock 3 p.m. Friday
