The North Penn girls water polo team dominated the competition and won its third straight state title Saturday at Wilson-West Lawn.
The Knights faced off against the No. 2 seed Wilson in the final, jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead and coasted to the 8-5 triumph. The victory not only clinched a threepeat for North Penn but also earned the Knights their eight state title in the past 11 seasons.
Claudia Thamm had a hat trick, while Maddy Koerper added two goqals. Kailyn Evans, Caroline Gillespie and Erin Huebner also scored for North Penn.
Rosalinda Rivera had 15 saves in net.
North Penn’s journey began Friday in the quarterfinals with a dominating 15-4 victory over Reading. Maeve Wyadan scored four goals. Koerper added a hat trick, while Thamm and Evans each had two.
Aly McLaughlin, Caroline Gillespie, Heather Hartmann and Melissa Mcguire also tallied goals. Rivera made six saves in net.
Saturday, North Penn held off a determined Villa Marie in the semifinals 9-5 as Koerper scored four goals. Wydan added the hat trick, while Evans tallied two more. Rivera made 11 saves in net.
For the tournament, Koerper led the way with nine goals, while Wydan had seven. Thamm and Evans each finished with five goals.
