For those who thought the three-way tie atop the Catholic League field hockey standings two years ago between Cardinal O’Hara, Archbishop Carroll and Bonner & Prendergast was a fluke, well, you were wrong.
It happened again.
Archbishop Carroll blanked previously undefeated Cardinal O’Hara, 3-0, and Bonner & Prendergast rolled over Little Flower, 10-1, to create a three-way tie for first place between the Patriots, Lions and Pandas. All three finished league play at 8-1.
Since the teams beat one another, a coin flip will be used to determine the 1-2-3 seeds for next week’s Catholic League playoffs. The coin flip will take place Sunday night, Bonner & Prendie coach Joanne Dolan said.
Dolan’s daughter, Riley, had a career night in the final regular-season home game of her career. The All-Delco senior scored three goals and had a career-high five assists. She was involved in every goal except Kerry Keenan’s penalty stroke.
Molly McNulty also had a hat trick for the Pandas (11-3, 8-1). Keenan and fellow senior Erin Murphy scored the first goals of their careers.
Meanwhile, over at O’Hara, goalie Kimmy McGroary made 19 saves and Jess Hewitt had two goals as the Patriots snapped O’Hara’s 16-game winning streak. Katy Curry also scored, while Sam Swart and Meg Foster had assists.
In the Inter-Ac League:
Episcopal Academy 3, Penn Charter 1 >> Maddie Rehak and Katie Crager showed the way for the Churchwomen (10-4-1, 6-1).
Rehak scored twice, Crager handed out two assists and the Churchwomen tallied two goals in the second half to break a 1-1 deadlock at halftime. Kathleeen Anderson also scored for EA.
