For a fourth straight season, Academy Park girls tennis has owned the Del Val postseason.
The tandem of Breanna Reid and Vickie Outland completed the sweep of the singles, team and doubles tally by claiming the Del Val Doubles crown at Chester Park Wednesday.
Reid and Outland won the title while dropping just five games, four in the first-round challenge by Brittany Murdock and Desiree Naugle of Chester. Reid and Outland swept Fatoumata Diarra and Motonrayo Agbeye of Penn Wood at love in the semis, then they dismissed the Patriots’ Edna Bonsu and Ixchelle Ortiz, 6-1, 6-0, from the final.
Both finalists advance to next week’s District 1 doubles tournament at Legacy Tennis Center.
For Reid, it’s a second straight Del Val doubles title, last year winning with Lattan Sithara. Reid and Outland finished 1-2 in the Del Val Singles tourney to qualify for last week’s District 1 tourney.
Diarra-Agbeye rebounded to win the consolation final, topping Chichester’s Alexa Jung and Angie Diebler, 6-2, 6-4. Jung-Diebler, the fifth seed, pulled a first-round upset in the match of the day, a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 (5) comeback over AP’s fourth-seeded duo of Cheyenne Phillips and Camille Erskine.
In the Central League:
Upper Darby 4, Ridley 3 >> The Royals swept singles play, including Meilin Zhao’s 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 marathon with D.J. Johnson at second singles, to secure the victory. Braya Page and Emily Gian also won singles matches.
Marisela Rechner and Karlee Bryan scored a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory at second doubles, and Nicole Arciella and Jen Ropski tallied a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 (super-tiebreak) victory at fourth doubles for the Green Raiders (4-14).
