Reporter-Area Girls Volleyball Roundup: Souderton, North Penn earn 5-set victories

Abington rallied from two sets down to forcing a fifth set, but Souderton held off the Galloping Ghosts’ comeback to earn a 29-27, 27-25, 20-25, 15-25, 15-9 Suburban One League Continental Conference win Wednesday.

Miranda Baronett had eight kills, 20 digs and three aces while Maria Iervolino put down 14 kills for Souderton (10-4, 9-4 conference). Lauren Hamilton handed out 34 assists.

Abington’s Anna Bantner collected 32 assists and five kills with Hannah Dalton adding 13 kills, 16 digs and a block.

North Penn 3, Pennridge 2 >> The final two sets of the SOL Continental match were both decided by two points, North Penn taking the fifth 15-13 to beat Pennridge 17-25, 25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 15-13.

Council Rock North 3, Central Bucks West 2 >> Central Bucks West took the third set for a 2-1 lead, but Council Rock North won the next to claim a 22-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15-10 SOL National win over the Bucks.

For CB West, Katie Hudson had 16 kills, 15 digs and a block while Kayla King finished with 29 assists, 30 digs and two kills.  Mackenzie Brooks added 16 digs and four kills.

Hatboro-Horsham 3, Wissahickon 0 >> Maddie Kallmeyer led Hatboro-Horsham with 20 digs and seven aces in the Hatters’ 25-9, 25-14, 25-23 SOL Continental victory.

Katerina Yankanich had 12 kills, five digs and two aces for Hatboro-Horsham (14-2, 11-2 conference) while Rachel Dittus dished out 18 assists.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 3, Upper Dublin 0 >> Plymouth Whitemarsh had three players register double-digits kills – Lily Acquaviva and Lauren Coscia with 11, Danielle Rippert with 10 – in sweeping Upper Dublin 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 for a SOL Continental victory.

Olivia Carbo chipped in 27 digs, nine assists and three aces for the Colonials.

Gwynedd Mercy 3, Merion Mercy 1 >> Gwynedd Mercy’s Lauren Holland collected her 1,000th career dig in the fourth set and finished with 13 in the match as the Monarchs picked up a 22-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 Catholic Academies win.

Lizzy Ferguson had nine kills, five aces and five blocks while Abigail Kress finished with eight kills, 13 digs, three blocks and a pair of aces for GMA.
