Anna Marie Degnan set the tone with a straight set victory at first singles Thursday to help Cardinal O’Hara advance to the Catholic League girls tennis championship with a 4-1 victory over Archbishop Wood.
The Lions will take on Lansdale Catholic, a 3-2 winner over Archbishop Carroll, in the title match next week.
The tandem of Erin Hutchinson and Jessica Dougherty dropped only one game at second doubles. Nina Ji won third singles and McKenzie Gardler and Caroline Lynch took first doubles for the Lions.
In the Inter-Ac League:
Agnes Irwin 6, Springside Chestnut Hill 1 >> The Owls received singles wins from Kayla Neary and Kathryn Hall, and swept doubles play, highlighted by a 6-0, 6-1 triumph by Sophie Yass and Phoebe Fry at fourth doubles.
In the Del Val League:
Academy Park 4, Chichester 1 >> Breanna Reid and Vicky Outland led the way as the Knights (10-7, 9-0) put the finishing touches on a fourth straight league title.
In nonleague action:
Notre Dame 5, Shipley 1 >> McKenna Bramlage won the No. 1 singles match in straight sets, and the Irish swept doubles play highlighted by Sarah Crinnion and Mackenzie Irvine’s 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 2 match.
Sun Valley 4, Ridley 3 >> Devin Cronin began a hard-fought win by winning the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, and the duo of Alyssa Madden and Payten Piccionci finished off the No. 2 doubles match with a 7-5 tiebreaker win to seal the victory for the Vanguards.
Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy 4, Delaware Valley Friends School 1 >> Talia Raikin and Janie Hershman picked up wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, respectively, and Talia Schley and Zoe Klein won the No. 2 doubles match in straight sets for the Cougars.
