Bowen’s brace paces Sun Valley win

Samantha Bowen scored twice in the second half to lift Sun Valley over Avon Grove 2-1 in Ches-Mont League play.

Bowen scored her first goal nine minutes into the half and the gamewinner in the 64th minute. Casey Purfield was credited with the assist on the winning goal, Elisabeth Morgan had the helper of the first strike for the Vanguards (7-5, 3-5). Amy Parker made four saves.

In the Central League:

Springfield 1, Radnor 1 >> Springfield’s knack for late goals earned it another point, with Julie Schickling scoring with 40 seconds left in regulation off Bridget Whitaker’s corner kick.

Maura Holst opened the scoring on a penalty kick with 11 minutes to play for Radnor.

Molly Ryan made 11 saves for Springfield (8-4-1, 4-2-1) before leaving with an injury.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Episcopal Academy 2, Springside Chestnut Hill 0 >> Maddie Loughead and Anna Salvucci scored twice as the Churchwomen stayed unbeaten in the league. Morgan Messner made eight saves for the shutout.

Notre Dame 3, Germantown Academy 3 >> Sophie Pinnie scored twice, and Juliet Marchesani added a goal as the Irish eked out a quality draw. Caroline O’Keefe made 15 saves for the Irish.

In nonleague action:

William Tennent 5, Delco Christian 3 >> Alex Thompson, Monica Lebaudy and Taylor Mingle scored for the Knights.

Interboro 7, Penn Wood 2 >> Mogran Reed tallied a second-half hat trick as the Bucs broke open a tie game at halftime.
