Haverford pulls away on Gannon’s second-half flurry

Carly Gannon collected one goal and one assist, both in the second half, as Haverford blanked Garnet Valley, 4-0, Tuesday in Central League field hockey action.

Gannon scored off a Corner to give the Fords a 2-0 lead and then fed Sydney Corcoran to make it 3-zip. Maggie Murphy and Laura Winters also scored for Haverford, while goalie Kaileigh Murphy made six saves in posting the shutout.

Bridget Elison stopped 25 shots for the Jaguars.

In other Central League action:

Lower Merion 6, Upper Darby 1 >> Danielle Geis powered the Aces with four goals. Emma Noel added one goal and two assists for LM.

Marie Smith converted a pass from Jonaye Osley on a corner in the second half for Upper Darby’s goal. Veronica Hudson (eight saves) and Mallory Perry (10 saves) split the goalkeeping duties for the Royals.

Strath Haven 2, Marple Newtown 1 >> Ashley Hassell assisted on both goals to pace the Panthers (5-1, 1-1) to their first league win of the season.

Hassell fed Val Henderson for a 1-0 lead and then set up Chloe Blessington to make it 2-0 at the half. Gia DeAngelis converted a pass from Nicole Morrisey to cut the deficit in half, but that was as close as the Tigers would get.

Gillian Gunn (four saves) and Kay Walker (nine saves) split the goalkeeping duties for Strath Haven. Anna DeCecco made six saves for the Tigers.  

Springfield 3, Penncrest 2 >> Goalie Cammy Shea came up with 14 saves to help the Cougars bounce back from a tough loss to Conestoga. Jackie Ciano, Michaela Travers and Maggie Fisher scored one goal each for Springfield.

Conestoga 10, Harriton 0 >> Meridith Ross, Emma McGillis and Charlotte de Vries all recorded hat tricks for the two-time defending Central League champions.
