Hannah Nihill may be headed to Drexel to play basketball, but as she showed Friday night, she’s also an outstanding field hockey player.
Nihill scored a hat trick to power Cardinal O’Hara to a 3-1 triumph over Episcopal Academy. Nihill scored an unassisted goal in the first half and then converted passes from Sara Hayes and Makayla Gallen to seal the victory in the second half for the Lions (3-0). Jen Ahearn turned back eight shots in goal.
In other nonleague action:
Notre Dame 7, Archbishop Carroll 1 >> Mia Leonhardt scored twice, and Tina D’Anjollel, Quinn Maguire and Laren Curran also found the back of the cage to stake the Irish (1-1) to a 5-0 halftime lead. Curran added a second goal in the second half, while goalie Kaie Liebeskind made nine saves.
Sam Swart scored the lone goal for the Patriots.
Strath Haven 6, Interboro 0 >> Goalie Kay Walker Dietz set the defensive tone for the Panthers with six saves. Val Henderson showed the way on offense with three goals.
W.C. Rustin 3, Garnet Valley 1 >> Jackie Daniels scored off a corner, but it wasn’t enough as Rustin used three goals in the first half to get past the Jags. Bridget Ellison made 12 saves in goal for the Jags.
