Collins coaches O’Hara over ND, better half

Cardinal O’Hara’s nonleague volleyball showdown with Notre Dame Friday night was more than a battle of two of the top teams in the county.
It also had an intra-family flair to it.
Bill Collins is the head coach at O’Hara. His wife, Brenda, is in her first season as the co-head coach at Notre Dame along with Mike Sheridan. Round one went to Bill as the Lions held on for a 3-1 victory over the Irish. O’Hara won 25-11, 24-26, 25-17, 25-22.
“It was a great match,” Bill Collins said. “There were a lot of good volleys.”
Meghan MacWilliams set the tone for O’Hara (2-1) with 26 assists, 10 digs and three kills. Kiki Daly added 12 kills, 11 assists and five aces, while her twin sister Erin had 10 kills, 12 digs and three aces.
The Butler sisters, Emma and Elise, led the way for the Irish (1-2). Emma Butler recorded 18 assists, while Elise had six kills. Freshman Riley Shaak pounded seven kills.
Sun Valley 3, Ridley 0 >> Megan Lynn played error-free game to lead Sun Valley to its fourth straight victory. Lynn finished with seven kills as the Vanguars won,25-6, 25-21, 25-13. Rachel Miller also had seven kills. Liz Boccella led the defense with 27 digs and two aces for the Vangurds (4-0).
Mel June had 18 digs and Jackie Kelly 16 digs for the Green Raiders.

Archbishop Carroll 3, Radnor 0 >> All-Delco senior Hannah Wright pounded 17 kills to lead the Patriots past the Raiders, 25-12, 25-21, 25-14. Morgan Silks set the offense in motion with 22 assists and Mary Kate Painter led the defense with 14 digs.
Senior Brianna Ellis led the Raiders with seven digs, six kills, five assists and two aces.
Rustin 3, Penncrest 1 >> All-Delco Diana Balta collected 24 kills and 20 digs. Nikki Gargiule added 22 assists and nine digs.
In the Del Val League:
Chichester 3, Interboro 0 >> Juliea Miles and Samantha Fox helped the Eagles slip past the Bucs, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23.
Miles had six aces, four kills, seven assists, while Falcone contributed three aces and five kills. Caitlyn Jones (one kill, four assists), Mackenzie Troutman (one ace, four kills) and Keziah Zapanta (two aces, one kill) also were key contributors.
Academy Park 3, Penn Wood 0 >> Tyliyah Lockman led the attack with nine kills. Ashley Green served 22 points with four aces and Tyalor Eiseman had 38 perfect passes, while Vicky Natale handed out 27 assists.
