Delco Times Roundup: Radnor starts with a cross country sweep

Radnor cross-country had a pretty good run of it at its home quad meet.

On the boys’ side, the Raiders swept Central League opponents Penncrest (26-29), Ridley (19-39) and Marple Newtown (15-50). Peter Cooke (17:59), Doug Rosin (18:12) and Jack Bell (18:18) posted three out of the top four times to help Radnor to the 3-0 day.

The Lions’ Avery Lederer was the top runner. He crossed the finish line in 17:34. Penncrest went 2-1, with wins over Ridley (22-37) and Marple Newtown (15-50).

In other Central League action:

Strath Haven takes two >> Liam Galligan set the pace at Naylor’s Run in Drexel Hill. He ran 16:45 and was the only runner to break the 17-minute mark. However, his Cougars had a rough afternoon, dropping results to Conestoga (20-41), Strath Haven (24-25) and Upper Darby (24-35).

Behind Peter Armour (18:08) and Evan Chen (18:19), Haven, which fell to Conestoga 16-43, defeated Upper Darby 26-31 in addition to its victory over Springfield.

Girls Cross Country

Strath Haven’s girls went 2-1 in Drexel Hill. The Panthers collected victories over Springfield (15-50) and Upper Darby (19-42) and lost to Conestoga, 25-34. Isabel Cardi was the meet’s top runner at 20:28. Teammate Taylor Barkdoll finished third at 21:09.

The Royals’ Dootleen Joseph was the third best Delco runner. She crossed the line in 21:37 as Upper Darby went 1-2.  Brianna Juliano was the Cougars top finisher at 24:04.

Field Hockey

Riley Dolan finished with two goals and three assists as Bonner-Prendergast started its season with an 8-0 rout of Lansdale Catholic. Molly McNulty scored a hattrick in the victory,

Girls Tennis

The doubles made the difference as Notre Dame edged Friends Central 4-3.

The Irish went 3-1 in doubles, punctuated by a thrilling third set between Notre Dame’s Katie Willis and Jen Fay and Friends Central’s Anna Volpp and Sophie Schall.

In the Bicentennial League:

Calvary Christian 4, Delco Christian 2 >> The duo of Ciara Mullen and Caitlin Harvey put the Knights on the board with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. The third doubles pairing of Sam Schoenlank and Jialing Jiang also notched a point for DCCS.

In the Del Val League:

Academy Park 4, Penn Wood 3 >> AP’s Breanna Reid won 6-0, 6-2, while Vickie Outland bested Rajah Bonsu 6-0, 6-1.

Water Polo

Senior goalie MJ Tricolli made five saves and four steals as The Haverford School downed Wissahickon, 18-13.
