Miles, Chichester go distance and edge Academy Park

Julia Miles provided some crucial plays for Chichester Wednesday, finishing 14 kills to go with four aces as the Eagles twice rebounded from down a set to outlast Academy Park, 3-2.

Mackenzie Troutman added five kills, a block and an ace for Chichester, which won by game scores of 20-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-17 and 15-6. Samantha Falcone chipped in six kills and one block, and Caitlyn Jones served two aces.

In the Catholic Academies League:

Sacred Heart 3, Villa Joseph Marie 2 >> Jaycee Webster put down 13 kills as the Lions started the season with a five-setter, prevailing 18-25, 25-16, 26-24, 20-25 and 15-10.

Juliana Michniak paired 10 kills with eight aces.

In the Central League:

Garnet Valley 3, Penncrest 0 >> The Jags had little problem in a battle of traditional powers, thanks in part to eight aces and eight digs by Lizzie Herestofa.

Sydney Portale added seven kills and seven digs, Erin Patterson put away seven kills and Gabby Davis dished 29 assists in a match the Jags won 25-12, 25-10, 25-15. Diana Balta posted a double-double for Penncrest 12 kills and 11 digs. Nikki Gargiule handed out 13 assists for the Lions (2-1, 0-1).

Radnor 3, Upper Darby 0 >> Brianna Ellis did a little of everything with 10 kills, seven assists and three aces as the Raiders rolled, 25-16, 25-10 and 25-19. Carleigh Goldstein supplied six kills, three aces and 10 assists. Becca Goldberg added six kills.

Marple Newtown 3, Harriton 1 >> Liz Conca led the way with 15 kills and four aces, leading a trio of double-digit attackers as the Tigers claimed a 25-12, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23 victory.

Bekah Roberts provided 12 kills and three blocks, while Alexa Mugler bashed 10 kills to go with seven digs. Hannah Roberts handed out 30 assists to go with four aces.

Strath Haven 3, Ridley 0 >> Melanie June paired four aces with seven digs in the losing effort for the Green Raiders, while Kayla Nespoli put down five kills and Jess Tait dished seven assists.

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 3, Conwell-Egan 0 >> Kiki Daly and Breanna Hickey supplied three kills apiece while combining on six aces, and freshman Lauren Garvey contributed two kills and six aces as the Lions won their season-opener 25-4, 25-11 and 25-7.

Bonner & Prendergast 3, St. Hubert 1 >> Caroline Manfre led the offense with eight kills, and Caroline Goggin anchored the defense with 14 digs as the Pandas claimed a squeaker, 26-24, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-17. Maggie McPeak handed out 21 assists.
