DLN Baseball Roundup: Conestoga wins Central League; Gardiner leads Unionville

Conestoga swept a doubleheader against Upper Darby, 16-1, 14-4, to clinch the Central League regular season baseball crown on Monday.
The Pioneers (12-4, 12-6 overall) cruised in the opener in a mercy rule shortened contest. Tom Forgerty and Luke Czepiel each had home runs to pace the winners.
In the nightcap, pitcher Angus Mayock went the distance, allowed just one earned run and drove in four runners at the plate. Percy Mottley and Alex Lee each chipped in with two hits for Conestoga.

Unionville 5, Downingtown East 3  >> The visiting Indians held off the Cougars in a close Ches-Mont battle. Tyler Marmo went 2-for-3 at the plate and Trevor Gardiner pitched a complete game, four-hitter for Unionville (9-10). Pat Howe had two hits and 2 RBIs for East (8-10).

West Chester East 6, West Chester Henderson 5 >> Kyle Smith singled in the tying run in the bottom of the sixth and Kevin Zabel scored the winning run in the seventh 0on a wild pitch for the Vikings. Tim Becker had three hits and Ben Foti added two hits for East (11-7). Tom Luckner went the distance and scattered seven hits and notched the win. Thomas Caufield and Chase Longenecker each had two hits to lead Henderson (12-6).

Oxford 7, Kennett 6 (9 innings) >> The Hornets scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning to edge the Blue Demons. Brandon Tomasulo had four hits and two runs batted in to pace Oxford (9-10). Mike Weber added two hits, including a home run, and Hunter Hall had three hits for the Hornets. Matt Kelly belted four hits for Kennett (3-15).

Avon Grove 9, West Chester Rustin 7 >> The Red Devils scored all nine runs in the first two innings to hold off the Knights in Ches-Mont action. Dan Braun, Jim Farrow, Matt Pettoruto and Ryan Guckin each had two hits for Avon Grove (7-12). Jake Rice and Noah Yoder had multiple hits for Rustin (10-8).

Octorara 12, Sun Valley 3 >> Jackson Ray led the Braves going 4-for-5 with a home run in a win over the Vanguards.
Ray also threw a complete game and allowed two earned runs.

Malvern Prep 9, Monsignor Bonner 5 >> Jake Mullen and Shane Muntz each had two RBI for the Friars in a nonleague win over Bonner.
