Kenzie Gardler and Cardinal O’Hara wasted no time Thursday night.
Gardler scored 10 of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter on an 8-for-8 shooting night from the field as second-seeded O’Hara downed No. 7 Lansdale Catholic, 70-33, in the Catholic League girls basketball quarterfinals.
Gardler also dished five assists for O’Hara (19-2), which spread the offensive load around.
Mary Sheehan scored 15 points, including seven in a first quarter in which the Lions jumped out to a 27-11 lead. Hannah Nihill added 11 points and handed out six assists, and Maura Hendrixson added seven as O’Hara hit 10 3-pointers and held the Crusaders without a make from beyond the arc. That defense limited LC to just 11 points in the second half.
O’Hara advances to Tuesday’s semifinals against No. 3 seed Archbishop Wood, which beat No. 6 Ryan, 49-34, Thursday night. That game will be held at Philadelphia University.
Also in the Catholic League playoffs:
Archbishop Carroll 41, Bonner & Prendergast 31 >> Molly Masciantonio scored a game-high 16 points as No. 4 seed Carroll shook off a 21-13 deficit at halftime to top the No. 5 Pandas.
Bella Sorrentino added nine points as Carroll used a 15-5 burst in the third quarter to pull ahead.
Princess Clemons led the Pandas with 12 points, and Emily Monaghan added 10 for the Pandas. Bonner & Prendie had built their halftime edge with a 16-7 margin in the second quarter.
Carroll advances to play top-seeded Neumann-Goretti, a 73-33 winner over St. Hubert, in Tuesday’s semifinal at Philadelphia University.
In the Inter-Ac League:
Episcopal Academy 47, Springside Chestnut Hill 32 >> Luca Mamula scored 11 points, and Lily Kuntz paired eight points and four assists as EA scored the victory on the back of strong defense that limited the hosts to 18 points in the first three quarters.
Elodie Furey scored six points and rejected six shots. Katie Weaver paired five points with seven rebounds for EA (13-7, 6-5).
