Freshmen Rechner, Glacken give Ridley winning edge

A comfortable win gave Ridley’s freshmen a little time to shine Wednesday.

Marisela Rechner won the 200-yard individual medley, and diver Shannon Glacken took top honors to represent the rookies as Ridley ran out as a 105-73 winner over Upper Darby in a Central League girls swimming meet.

Jordan Mea won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke as the Green Raiders spread out the wins. The A relay team of Kiera Wadsworth (50 free), All-Delco Gab Rudy (100 free) and Heather Bogardus (100 butterfly) joined Rechner in winning one individual event each in addition to claiming the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Upper Darby’s Madison Weir won the 500 free for the hosts, and Claire Hamilton was fastest in the 100 breaststroke.

Also in the Central League:

Haverford 98, Marple Newtown 75 >> Youth was also served for the Fords, with freshmen Grace Myers winning the 50 and 400 free and Elizabeth Myers winning the 200 free. Interspersed in that effort was Maddie Hart’s usual brilliance, with the reigning girls Swimmer of the Year winning the 200 IM.

Strath Haven 99, Springfield 82 >> Camille Jablonski put on her sprint cap to win the 50 and 100 free to go with a pair of relay wins, and All-Delco Frances Resweber did her usual distance double in the 200/500 frees as the Panthers rolled.

Emily Ross (100 fly) and Gabby McGillin (100 breast) each matched an individual win with a relay triumph.
Georgia Apostolu took care of Springfield’s two individual wins, blistering the field in the 200 IM in 2:14.05 and 100 back in 59.88, both District One automatic cuts.

In the Inter-Ac:

Agnes Irwin 91, Notre Dame 89 >> Kaitlin Perni won the 50 and 100 free to help Notre Dame eke out a win over its league rival late Tuesday.

Perni added a leg on the winning 200 free relay, joining individual event winners Meg Gentile (100 fly) and Michaela McGeary (100 back).

Maddie Aguirre won the 200 IM and 100 breast for Agnes Irwin and was part of the Owls’ winning 200 medley and 400 free relays.
