All-Delco Cross Country: Mansaray, Turner made history for Penn Wood

In addition to Runners of the Year Ryan James and Olivia Arizin the All-Delco team consists of:

Jamie Green, Ridley: The sophomore is the first Ridley female athlete to qualify for the PIAA championships since Lauren Hart in 2003. Green also is the first Ridley athlete to earn All-Delco honors in cross country since Hart. Green placed 63rd with a time of 19 minutes, 51 seconds. Green showed great improvement from her freshman season. She won the Central League championship, was fourth at Delcos and 39th at the District One Class AAA championships. Green also finished 10th at the 23rd Carlisle High School Invitational and 13th in the girls white race at the Paul Short Run.

Elizabeth Mancini, Cardinal O’Hara: The sophomore had another strong season to earn All-Delco honors for the second straight year. Mancini placed seventh at Delcos and was fourth at the Catholic League championships to help the Lions claim their third straight title, ninth in 12 years and 18th overall. She also finished third at the District 12 championships to pace O’Hara to its fourth consecutive team title, sixth in eight years and a berth in the PIAA championships.

Sacred Heart’s Emma Seifried, a two-time All-Delco runner, tries to catch Marianne Abdalah from Vincentian Academy at the Class A finish line at the PIAA Championships in Hershey last month.

Agnes Mansaray, Penn Wood: The senior from Sierra Leone made history when she became the first Penn Wood athlete to medal at the PIAA Class AAA championships, where she was 17th in 18:59. Mansaray’s improvement from her junior year to her senior season was dramatic. She did not break 20 minutes as a junior, but topped that mark in all nine races she ran as a senior. Mansaray won the large school race at the Bulldog Invitational and the Del Val qualifier, was third at Delcos and 11th at the District One championships.

Maia Mesyngier, Strath Haven: Like her team, Mesyngier came on strong at the end of the season. The senior was 36th at the state meet to lead the Panthers to a seventh-place finish in the Class AAA team competition. It was Strath Haven’s second top 10 finish in three years. Mesyngier was second at the Central League championships and the Abington Invitational. She placed fifth at Delcos and was 15th at the District One Class AAA championships, where the Panthers were fifth as a team.

Emma Seifried, Sacred Heart: Seifried has already had one of the more successful careers in recent years and she’s just a sophomore. She took second in the PIAA Class A championship for the second year in a row. Seifried, the 2014 Daily Times Runner of the Year, also won the Catholic Academies championship and the District One Class A crown for the second consecutive season. She was second at Delcos and closed out the cross country season with an 18th-place finish at the Nike Northeast Regional.

Terri Turner, Penn Wood: Turner, a junior, transferred to Penn Wood from Springside Chestnut Hill and quickly formed a solid 1-2 punch with Mansaray. The pair would make history as the first Penn Wood runners to qualify for the PIAA championships. Turner placed 50th at the state meet and was 26th at the District One Class AAA championships. She also took sixth at Delcos and was second at the Bulldog Invitational and the Del Val qualifier.

James Abrahams, Haverford: The junior started strong with a second-place finish at the Abington Invitational and just kept going. He turned in his best time of the season (15:57) with an 11th-place finish in the Brown race at the Paul Short run, and then took third at Delcos, second in the Central League championship and 16th at the District One Class AAA championship to qualify for the PIAA championships, where he was 108th. It was the fifth straight year the Fords had a boys runner qualify for the state meet.

Cardinal O’Hara’s Rob Morro, a two-time All-Delco and senior, joined with Runner of the Year Ryan James in helping to boost the Lions to Class AAA team titles at the Delaware County and District 12 meets.

Liam Galligan, Springfield: Consistent would be the best way to describe Galligan’s season. He began the season with a second-place finish at the Bulldog Invitational (small schools) and remained one of the top runners in the state throughout the season. Galligan, a junior, was 13th in the boys gold race at the PIAA Foundation Invitational. He followed that with a second in the boys white race at the Paul Short Run, place eighth at Delcos, 14th in the District One Class AAA meet and capped his season with a 21st-place finish at the PIAA Class AAA championships. He was one of three Delco runners to medal at the state meet.

Avery Lederer, Penncrest: Lederer came into his own as a sophomore. He finished in the top 10 in every invitational he entered. Lederer was eighth at the Northamption Invitational, seventh at the Abington Invitational, second at the Penncrest Invitational, third at Salesianum (large schools), sixth at Delcos and seven in the Central League championships. Lederer placed 48th in the District One Class AAA championship and finished the season with a seventh-place in the boys sophomore race at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional.

Rob Morro, Cardinal O’Hara: The senior was part of a strong 1-2 punch with Ryan James that helped the Lions win the Delco team title, finish second at the Catholic League and District 12 championships and sixth as a team at the PIAA Class AAA championship. A two-time All-Delco, Morro won the Catholic League title and was second to James at the Delco and District 12 championships, and earned a medal with a 23rd-place finish at the PIAA Class AAA championships. He closed out the cross country portion of his scholastic career with a 42nd-place at the Nike Northeast Regional.

Ian Reid, Strath Haven: The senior was Strath Haven’s top finisher throughout the season. He opened the season with a third-place finish in the small school race at the 26th Bulldog Invitational. After a 53rd place at the PIAA Foundation Invitational (gold race) and a 41st at the Paul Short Run (brown race), Reid took fifth at Delcos and sixth in the Central League championships. He closed out the season with a 58th-place finish at the District One Class AAA championship.

Sean Sullivan, Bonner & Prendergast: Finishing in the top 10 was routine for Sullivan. The senior placed in the top 10 in five of six invitational races. He won the District 12 Class AA championship to lead the Friars to their second straight team title and a trip to the PIAA championships for a fourth consecutive year. Sullivan placed 30th in the PIAA Class AA championship race. He also was third at the Briarwood Invitational (boys Division II race), fourth at the PIAA Foundation Invitational (boys blue race) and fourth at Delcos, where he posted the best time of his career (16:28).
