Long, Ryan help Springfield rally in opener

It was all about the Kyles for Springfield Friday night, as the Cougars launched a major comeback to top Unionville, 45-36, at the Unionville Tipoff Tournament.

Springfield outscored the hosts, 24-5 in the fourth quarter. Kyle Long had 12 points and five assists. Kyle Ryan scored a team-high 13 points. Kyle Sullivan provided a clutch steal late to lead the Cougars into the title game.

At the Fred Pickett Classic:

Penn Wood 61, Math, Civics & Science 60 >> Vincent Smalls scored a game-high 15 points, and Jordan Johnson and Kairi Jones added 10 points apiece as the Patriots rallied late to win.

Sanford 59, Chester 57 >> Stanley Davis scored a team-high 13 points and Marquis Collins added 12 as one of 10 scorers for the Clippers, but poor free-throw shooting down the stretch led the Chester squandering a seven-point lead entering the fourth quarter.

At the Oxford Tipoff:

Chichester 72, Oxford 64 >> Eric Montanez led all scorers with 20 points, and Daquan Granberry added 19 points to lead the Eagles.

Jamai Womack added 15 points for Chi, which advances to face Lampeter-Strasburg in the title game at 7:30.

At the Radnor Tipoff:

Radnor 61, Roxborough 48 >> Vinnie Kelly scored 15 points, Mason Ressler added 14 and Michael Li 13 as the Raiders advanced to the title game of their tournament.

Episcopal Academy 68, Quakertown 54 >> Nick Alikakos posted yet another double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds as the Churchmen (2-0) scored 31 points from the line to advance to the title game.

Matt Woods scored 14 points, and Conner Delaney added 12 for EA.

At the Devon Prep Tipoff:

Pope John Paul II 54, Cardinal O’Hara 51 >> Jaye’lyn Peebles scored a game-high 33 points, but the Lions couldn’t get over the hump late.

At the Donegal Tipoff:

Palmyra 64, Marple Newtown 56 >> Marcus Weathers tallied a career-high 21 points, but the Tigers came up short. Mark Dever added 10 points for Marple.

At the Abington Tipoff:

Church Farm 37, Upper Darby 29 >> Kahleel Henry provided most of Upper Darby’s points with 16, but Church Farm pulled away in a game tied after three quarters thanks to its performance at the line.

The Royals will play Wissahickon in the third-place game Saturday.

In other nonleague action:

Bonner-Prendergast 66, Malvern Prep 61 >> John Hargraves posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead five BP players in double-figures to claim the battle of Friars.

Christian Lane added 13 points, Chris Haynes and Mike Mercanti chipped in 11 each and Keith Washington added 10 points.

Strath Haven 59, Academy Park 54 >> Kyree Fuller scored nine of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Panthers outscored AP, 21-10, in the final frame to get coach Dave McFadden his first win.

John Harrar added 18 points for Haven.

Nick Simmons led Academy Park with 18 points, and Nassan Garrison supplied 16.

Glen Mills 55, Harry S. Truman 50 >> Ewhnik Proctor posted a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Daquan Dantzler scored seven of his 15 in the fourth quarter as the Battlin’ Bulls claimed a back-and-forth game.

W.C. East 42, Interboro 36 >> Tarjah Faikai scored a team-high 11 points, but the visiting Eagles pulled away in a game tied after three quarters.

Avon Grove 66, Sun Valley 53 >> Ryan Hall scored 19 points, and Kyle Ryan added 12, but the Vanguards couldn’t recover from a 15-4 deficit hung on them in the second quarter.
