Frigerio, Hammitt reach Central semifinals

Radnor’s Will Frigerio and Strath Haven’s Xandy Hammitt are making headway in the Central League Singles Championships and will compete at the Springfield Healthplex Saturday, needing two more wins for a title.

Friday afternoon, Hammitt defeated Jacob Apple of Garnet Valley, 6-3, 6-2, while Frigerio won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, over Harriton’s Isaac Goldberg, in the quarterfinal round.

Frigerio, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, takes on fifth-seeded Nick Ruth of Conestoga in the semis. The third-seeded Hammitt faces No. 2 Simon Vernier of Lower Merion.

Apple began his day with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Harriton’s Esteban Bermudez before falling to Hammitt. Tyler Stroyek of Springfield downed Garnet Valley’s Jared Verratti in the second round before he was eliminated by Ruth in the quarterfinals.
