Exeter wins three league matches to go 4-0 in Berks

The Exeter High School wrestling team improved to 4-0 in the Berks League and 8-1 overall after three Berks League wins. It has been a great start to the season for the Eagles who are picking up where they left off last year. The Eagles were 6-1 last year, finishing in second place in Division 1. But their one loss was to Governor Mifflin, the team that won the division with a perfect 7-0 record.

The Eagles will take a holiday break before they resume their schedule in the new year. The next Berks League match for the Eagles will be against Governor Mifflin on Jan. 7. The Mustangs are the defending division champs and the match will go a long way in determining this year’s division champions.

On Dec. 17, the Eagles played host to Muhlneberg in a league contest. Exeter piled up the first 44 points of the match and cruised to a 65-11 win.

Earning pins for the Eagles were: Brett Kulp (120), 0:44; Tyler Borton (145), 1:47; Ethan Stever (152), 1:21; Dennis Kara (182), 3:31; and Scott Schaeffer (195), 1:25.

Ryan Watts (113) won by a 1-0 decision, and Oscar Daniels (285) won by an 11-4 decision. Austin Desanto won by a technical fall, 23-8, in 2:58.

Winning by forfeit for Exeter were: James Harkiess (132), Tyler Bagoly (138) and Karl Nelson (220).

On Dec. 19, Exeter topped Reading, 59-10.

Winning by pins for the Eagles were: David Wentling (106), 1:38; Bagoly (138), 3:37; Harkness (152), 3:39; Stever (160), 0:30; Karas (170), 1:31; Schaeffer (182), 0:51; and John Greenleaf (220).

Daniels (285) won by a 7-2 decision and Kulp (120) won by a forfeit.

On Dec. 20, the Eagles topped Daniel Boone, 56-9.

Winning by pins for Exeter were: Austin Desanto (126), James Harkness (132), Tyler Harkness (152), Daniels (285) and Ryan Watts (113).

Karas (170), David Wentling (106) and Kulp (120) all won by forfeits.

Stever (160) won by a 3-1 decision and Nolan Buck (195) won by a 4-0 decision.
