Girls Tennis: Garnet Valley’s Zhang, Blake fall in district doubles final

The Garnet Valley duo of Marina Zhang and Emma Blake fell, 6-1, 6-2, to the Abington pair of Molly Bair and Amirah Salim-Bey in the final of the District One Doubles Tournament Wednesday morning at Legacy.

Zhang and Blake still advance to the PIAA Doubles Tournament.

Zhang and Blake reached the final with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over the Conestoga pair of Amy Zhang and Kaylee Yan in a matchup of Central League standouts in the semifinals Saturday.

Episcopal dominates Inter-Ac tourney: Led by a victory at first singles by Genevieve McCormick, host Episcopal Academy dominated the Inter-Ac League Tournament Tuesday.

In a battle of All-Delcos in the first-singles final, McCormick downed Agnes Irwin’s Camille Smuckler, 8-5.

That helped the Churchwomen pile up 45.5 points, well ahead of runnerup Agnes Irwin, which finished with 28.5 points. Notre Dame took third at 11.5 points.

Episcopal’s Nadiyah Browning took the second-singles title with an 8-4 victory over Agnes Irwin’s Catie Burkhardt.

Notre Dame’s Ann Marie Crinnon prevented Episcopal from sweeping the singles titles as she knocked off the Churchwomen’s Bella Echen in the third-singles final.

Episcopal took three of the four doubles titles with Haley Potter and Kaity Tarte winning at first doubles, Emily Beinkampen and Eloise Nimoityn capturing the third-doubles title and Bella Calastri and Sam Macrides teaming up to win at fourth doubles.
