OJR’s Nettie Montes heading to Jamaica to play for Puerto Rico national team

Come September 28, Owen J. Roberts’ Nettie Montes will be packing her bags and flying out to Kingston, Jamaica as she will be part of the 2014 Puerto Rico National Team as it plays in the 2014—15 Women’s FIH Hockey World League first round from September 30 to October 5.

“This will be my first tournament playing with the national team,’ Montes said. “I met the team this summer and did a training camp with them. It’s an incredible opportunity to grow as a player and become more culturally aware. Seeing the different culture in Puerto Rico compared to here was eye-opening and it really helped me with my Spanish.’

Montes will leave OJR’s midfield for two games, one against Boyertown, the other against Liberty Divison leader Perkiomen Valley. However, the Wildcats are prepared for her departure.”They tried taking me out during practice and in some games that we were winning,’ Montes said. “My position directs everyone on the field so they have to find someone to take that spot.’
