Conestoga boys tennis advances

Conestoga advanced in the PIAA Class AAA Boys Team Tennis Championships with a 4-1 win over Mount Lebanon at Hershey Racquet Club on Friday.

The Pioneers won two of the three singles matches and swept the doubles.

Brian Grodecki earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles, and Eric Yen breezed 6-0, 6-0 at second singles.

Steven Yang and Nick Ruth dropped the first set but rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision at first doubles.

Ryan Swope and Max Howarth prevailed 6-0, 6-2 at second doubles.

Mount Lebanon was the second seed out of District 7.

Conestoga, the District 1 champion, will face District 2 champion Abington Heights in a semifinal match today at noon.

District 1 third seed Council Rock North and District 7 champion Shady Side Academy will meet in the other semifinal.

The championship match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
